About Amy

I was born and raised in central Maine where I attended Temple Academy and Lawrence High School.  Growing up, my summers were spent working on my grandfather’s dairy farm in Albion.  My undergraduate studies were at Gordon College in Massachusetts where I graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biology.  While attending Gordon I was a teaching assistant, the president of the Biology Club, and captain of the Cross Country team.  I also worked at the Naval Blood Research Laboratory at Boston University.  My graduate studies were at the University of California at Davis where I earned a M.S. degree in Genetics.  In Davis, while working in various laboratories I also ran three marathons and volunteered for a homeless ministry, which is where I met my husband, Michael Arata, who lead the group.

I chose to leave my career in molecular research to focus on raising my 3 boys:  Jacob, David, and Stephen.  In 2006, my family moved to Maine and I began a new career in real estate investment and brokerage.  I am a broker with The Maine Real Estate Network and a partner in East West Mechanical Engineering.

Volunteerism is very important to me.  I have served on the New Gloucester Budget Committee as Chairperson as well as the Capital Improvement Committee and am currently the Vice Chairperson of the Planning Board.  I am an active member of East Auburn Baptist Church where I teach Sunday school with my husband.  I also volunteer as the Treasurer of the New Gloucester GOP.
