A couple weeks ago I, along with many other local residents in the Kennebunk area, had the pleasure of attending a Pink Tie Party; a night of music and food to raise money for breast cancer awareness and the ongoing support for research for all cancers. This event was something I had been looking forward to for quite some time and was very excited to attend!
Vinegar Hill Music Theater was the venue for Community of Caring’s first annual Pink Tie Party. Sarah Wormwood, an employee of Distinctive Tile & Design located in Kennebunk, was the mastermind behind this event and boy did she deliver! Sarah wanted to create a way to make a bigger impact on cancer research as her mother is a two-time cancer survivor. Sarah presented her idea to her boss, Larry Stoddard and he was able to partner with Lana Wescott of Lana Wescott Events to put together this successful event.
As previously mentioned, this event was something I had been looking forward to for many reasons. Selfishly, as a new realtor, I was excited to attend as a networking opportunity and an excuse to get dressed up in pink cocktail attire but this event really was so much more than that. The event included a silent auction and a live auction in which all proceeds from this event went to the Maine Cancer Foundation’s 20/20 initiative to cut cancer rates in Maine by 20% by the year 2020. Now that’s something worth raising money for.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with a glass of pink champagne and pink cotton candy on a stick and it immediately set the tone for a fun evening! Music by Maine’s own Tickle, kept the dance floor rocking all night long. And the food? OUSTANDING! Hors d’oeuvres stations were set up throughout the venue featuring amazing creations from local chefs including award winning David Turin, chef and owner of David’s Restaurants: David’s Monument Squareand David’s Opus Ten in Portland, Maine, David’s 388 in South Portland, Maine and David’s KPT in Kennebunkport, Maine.
The real highlight of the night, beyond the fun atmosphere, great people, beautiful venue and amazing food was the amount of money raised between the silent and live auction. The live auction featured a guest appearance from Desperate Housewives Teri Hatcher! Yes, I was in the presence of Teri Hatcher! A celebrity! Side note – Teri rocked the dance floor all night and took a ton of selfies. A truly down to earth celeb!
Through donations, sponsorships and auction item sales, the community was able to raise an amazing amount of money from just one event that lasted a few hours. Every piece of this event was donated from the band, food, venue, décor and auction items. Now if that doesn’t speak volumes for what a great community this is, I don’t know what else does and I am so lucky to be part of it!
A huge thank you to Alyssa Ashley Ames, owner of Hair Care N Design, located in Biddeford, ME, for making my hair look absolutely gorgeous for the event!
