Located off of Dutton Hill Road on Tavern Hill, right before the Gray town line, is a little farm stand packed with a lot of different products. This self-serve farm stand, on any given day, might have tomatoes, sweet onions, sweet corn, kale, cucumbers, eggs or various herbs. On the day I visited in mid-September they also still had floral arrangements in painted Mason jar vases.
Tavern Hill Farm is a family owned and operated 40-acre farm. Some of their advertised specialties include: pastured pork and chicken, organic vegetables, maple syrup and eggs. They also grow and supply the blueberries for Maine’s own Allagash Brewing Company for their Little Sal Beer.
Every year the farm works to expand their sugaring operation. In 2016 they tapped 220 trees. All syrup is Grade A and is sold in glass bottles.
Not all of these products are available at the farm stand, but you may call ahead to make an appointment to visit the farm, located at the end of Tavern Hill.
In October you can expect to see less vegetables as their season is starting to wind down. One of the friendly and responsive owners let me know that we can soon expect to see bunches of decorative corn stalks at the farm stand for $5. These are competitively priced $1-$2 less than other farms.
For more information on available products or to learn more about how their animals are raised, visit their website at www.tavernhillfarm.com.
