Another Cumberland Fair has come and gone and now Maine's foliage, winterizing summer cottages and putting boats to bed for a long nap will be the topics of discussion. I'm happy to serve as The Maine Real Estate Network's Cumberland Area Market Specialist and look forward to covering events, local businesses and recreational activities to give you just a taste of what a wonderful place Cumberland, Maine is whether you already own a home here, are thinking about buying, or just visiting!
I love frequenting the local farmers markets to get the freshest produce, poultry etc. and decided to visit the local one in Cumberland on Saturday before they close up for the season. I arrived around 10:45am and purchased some beautiful plump tomatoes from Winslow Farm's ample array of vegetables before moving on to peruse the other wares and goods. I enjoyed meeting Susan Purcell who creates a variety of specialty desserts that pair well with MaineFlavor sauces. The Cumberland Farmer's Market is located at 290 Tuttle Road in the Town Hall parking lot. Its last day is Saturday, October 15th, 9:00am until noon.
Since I was so close, I also attended the grand opening of Cumberland's own Story Book Forest Walk that started promptly at 11:00am right behind the town hall. This new trail is designed to promote reading and exercise while taking in the beautiful scenery of the Cumberland woods. Refreshments were provided including some delicious apple cider from Sweetser's and there was a great turnout for a reading of local author, Mary Train's Time for the Fair. Thanks to Town Manager, Bill Shane and Director of Communications, Eliza Porter for organizing this fun event. I was able to fit it all in before noon and still set up for an open house!
