Lewiston and Auburn are neighboring communities in southern Central Maine. These small cities gained prominence in the late 1800’s as the preeminent shoe manufacturers in the United States. While the shoe industry is no longer prominent, these bustling communities remain popular because of their friendly residents and great location along the Androscoggin River.

Lewiston is home to Bates College, which is considered among the best liberal arts schools in the country.

Lewiston/Auburn Culture

The historic cities of Lewiston and Auburn have plenty of fun events and cultural activities for people of all ages.

The Great Falls Balloon Festival is one of the region’s most popular annual events. For a week in August, local volunteers, business leaders and families gather for a week of community celebration featuring hot air balloons, performances, and food and drink.

Check out the Community Little Theatre in Auburn for excellent plays and musicals.

Food & Drink

Fuel is an excellent, upscale restaurant in Lewiston. Fuel specializes in modern French bistro and has an great wine and cocktail menu.

Fishbones is another great place to eat in Lewiston featuring American style seafood dishes.

Recreation

People in the Lewiston/Auburn area tend to be active all year-round. Because these cities are only a half hour from the coast and an hour from world-class ski resorts, there is no shortage of things to do here.

In the warmer months, residents enjoy playing golf, hiking, and spending time on the Androscoggin River, Lake Auburn and Taylor Pond. In the winter, many people cross-country ski, snowmobile and play ice hockey.
